The Tata Nano is perhaps the Tatas' biggest gift to the world. It might very well be the turning point in the history of the automobile sector not only in India but also in the whole world. No other car from India has generated so much interest and excitement in the international arena. The Nano has received an iconic status by entering Guinness Book of World Records 2009,The 54th edition of the record book, which was launched at London has listed the Nano as the world’s cheapest car.

During the launch of Tata Nano, Ratan Tata revealed the story on what inspired him to think about a small car. The saying goes like this - “I observed families riding on two-wheelers. The father driving the scooter, his young kid standing in front of him, his wife seated behind him holding a little baby. It led me to wonder whether one could conceive of a safe, affordable, all-weather form of transport for such a family. Today, we indeed have a People’s Car, which is affordable and yet built to meet safety requirements and emission norms......"

The Tata Nano has generated great interest even amongst its rivals. Here's what competitors, other VIPs had to say after a close encounter with the little wonder.

"I congratulate you on three things -- a modern and contemporary car, design, sufficient internal volume, designed and developed entirely on your own."
-----> Fiat Chairman Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo.
"A very nice and spacious car,"
----->Pascal Couchepin President of Switzerland.

"We like this car." -----> Jean Todt, CEO, Ferrari.

"Amazing! Please convey my best wishes to Mr Tata. This is a benchmark kind of a model. You Indians will always make us think.
This will be a great contribution to the community."
-----> Rick Wagoner, CEO, General Motors.

"I should thank you. This is really fantastic. This is what we should try and achieve. We must acknowledge the great work done by you. However, we will compete with you."
-----> Carlos Ghosn, CEO, Renault Nissan.

"It is amazing to be in the world's cheapest car"
-----> James Press,Vice Chairman, Chrysler.

"This is a fantastic effort. We would be delighted to work with you if possible."
-----> Robert Reithofer, chairman, BMW.

"The Nano is similar to or cheaper than an auto-rickshaw and offers similar mileage. But it provides more safety and has superior technology, so I see the conversion of this market to the nano ----->R C Bhargava, chairman Maruti Suzuki India.

"The Nano is tapping into a huge latent demand. This car is made for the market. It's what people want,It's not a car anyone would be ashamed to be seen in. It's cool, funky and politically correct"
----->Hormazd Sorabjee, editor, Autocar India

"We started to feel the impact of the Nano since the announcement of the launch date. People are postponing purchases and there has been a lull in th e market ever since"
-----> Arif Fazulbhoy, director Fazulbhoy Motors, one of Mumbai's largest used-car dealers.
If RATAN TATA can fulfill his Dream by breaking all the barriers WHY CANT WE ?
